How do we adopt circular economy models in our drilling and workover operations?
Drilling and workover processes are crucial to delivering high-quality energy to the world in a timely and reliable manner.
They ensure the wells’ lifecycles are optimized and we are utilizing our assets in the most efficient ways.
As part of our ongoing efforts to embed circular models in our operations, ensuring we optimize our resources and minimize environmental impact.
We adopt several drilling and workover initiatives focused on enhancing materials and chemicals consumption, efficient asset utilization, water conservation, and waste minimization.
In 2023, we implemented circular drilling practices in 257 wells, successfully recycling and reusing many of the resources required.
In 2023, we recycled and reused:
• 3.9+ million barrels of drilling fluids
• 2,000+ wellheads and pieces of well control equipment
• 6,000+ repaired drilling assets
• 8,500+ metric tons of oil country tubular goods
This enabled us to reduce water consumption at these wells by 13 million barrels and wastewater by three million barrels.
With a more sustainable future in mind, we continue to integrate circular practices, closing the loop in many areas of our operations.
