Marjan and Zuluf Increment Projects Department celebrates 2 million safe man-hours

The Marjan and Zuluf Increment Projects Department (MZIPD) recently celebrated 2 million safe man-hours of its Marjan Onshore Oil Facilities (MOOF) without a lost time injury — a notable accomplishment for a project with approximately 1,080 construction workers manning various work scopes on-site.

Aramco Project Management Team (PMT) and team members from the contractor’s side, Operations, Loss Prevention, and Project Inspection attended a celebration event in Tanajib.

“Everyone needs to maintain the momentum we have here and complete the project with zero incident. In doing so, this challenge requires everyone’s full commitment with the goal to keep ourselves injury-free and go back to our respective families unscathed, and safe and happy,” said Badr M. Burshaid, MZIPD manager.

This milestone reflects a best safety culture even in a complex environment, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Walkthroughs, observation, and inspections

Achieving this required close monitoring of field activities in which PMT performed hundreds of joint safety walkthroughs with the contractor’s on-site team and its subcontractors. More than 21,000 safety behavior observations and focus inspections were conducted by the team. It also required close coordination between various stakeholders, third-party contractors, and multiple external agencies.

Nasir S. Al-Abbas, senior projects manager of the MOOF Division, noted, “This accomplishment was attained with the full support and cooperation of all team members."

This demonstrates the team’s effort in promoting a safe work environment at the project site or anywhere else necessary. This celebration would not be possible if not for your dedication and zeal.

Safety has been further reinforced by empowering employees to recognize and intervene on at-risk behaviors or conditions requiring improvement. This provides opportunities for employee development and coaching in a learning environment.

Every employee receives MZIPD site induction training as well as specialized training for Plant Operations orientation, and the contractor ensures all personnel on-site are familiar with the appropriate health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) programs covering a range of safety values, including hazard recognition and mitigation.

Key contributors to achieving the project’s excellent safety performance include PMT leadership, collaboration of the contractor’s construction team, and the adherence of the team to Aramco’s HSSE governance management.
