LPG PLANT OPENS IN RAS TANURA
The Ras Tanura Terminal Refrigerated LPG Plant, the first in the Middle East to make liquefied propane and butane gas available in refrigerated from for offshore sale, began start-up procedures Sunday and is expected to be on full stream by the first of next week.
The plant is a major portion of a $7.5 million expenditure designed to produce 4,000 barrels per day of propane and butane.
FOX-1 MONITORS NEW PLANT
A sharp-eyed Fox has joined Aramcons in keeping tabs on the ongoing processes of Abqaiq's new NGL-producing Plant 462. The Fox is a process control computer, the first installed in any Aramco facility.
At intervals as short as one second, it checks vital process parameters in the plant such as temperatures, pressures, and flow rates, compares the number with nominal values, and informs its human overseers of variations from the norm.
The installation of the Foxboro Company computer, one of only 35 in operation around the world, is the result of three years of planning.
NORTHERN SHOPS DIV. COMPLETES UNIQUE REPAIR
Northern Shops Division (NSD) of the Mechanical Services Shops Department recently completed a unique repair job on a tall C-5 column at Ras Tanura Refinery, completing the complex job a week ahead of schedule.
The column is used to heat Adip to remove entrapped hydrogen and carbonyl sulfide extracted from propane.
IREAD 206 CONDUCTS WORKSHOPS
The popular and successful iRead competition, dedicated to promoting reading among the Kingdom's young people, recently conducted its fourth year of workshop activities.
iRead 2016 was launched in March with 14,000 applicants, and 150 participants were elected to advance to the first stage, with another 36 young male and female readers making it to the camp level.
The iRead camp provides participants with the opportunity to meet authors, artists, and thinkers, and give participants a chance to discuss books with like-minded young people. The program is conducted by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, an Aramco initiative designed to further help develop the knowledge society in Saudi Arabia.
