Collaboration has Marjan sailing safely in the right direction

An innovative solution to provide construction training and enhance on-the-job safety was recently inaugurated at Tanajib Gas Plant (TGP) by Ahmad A. Al-Sa’adi, senior vice president of Technical Services for Aramco during an Upstream Project Management meeting.

The Marjan Education and Risks Awareness Square (MERAS) is an unprecedented collaboration between Aramco and all construction contractors to promote the culture of safety in one program.

The training hub was built for the general education of the contractors on specific hazards, hazard prevention, hazard mitigation, and to award certifications. To date, TGP has 14.5 million safe man-hours accumulated. The initiative has proven so successful that Project Management is planning to replicate it in the Southern and Central Area projects.

Other highlights of the meeting included:

  • Demonstration of construction technologies new to the industry and implemented at Aramco for the first time.
  • A presentation on the Tanajib Wetland and Natural Park, which is an environmental initiative that strives to use temporary camp facility excess wastewater to develop and sustain a green space for the benefit of the microenvironment. The eco-park, with a 2 million square meter green area and 3 million square meter natural pond, will exist independently after the temporary construction facility is removed.
